“The Bridge” is an anamorphic composition of five intersecting planes created by Spanish visual artist Elbi Elem for the WOMART Project curated by Rebobinart in the city of Tortosa, Spain.
According to the artist, the mural was painted taking advantage of the characteristics of the wall and its surroundings. She found it interesting, not only because of its surface of white cement, but also its location. Placed under a large bridge and next to an open green area and the Ebro River, Elbi Elem’s geometric intervention is designed to be seeing from several focal points, and particularly one where the anamorphic image she created becomes visible.
The idea behind this piece is to evoque an image of its surroundings; the city and the river, using the already existing windows of the bridge that make its pillars look like buildings.
Inside the bridge is the Ebro Museum, where there is an interesting space for both children and adults, and where geometry and perspective are explained through games and examples, relating to the intervention outside.
The Womart project, counted with the participation of artists like Elbi Elem, Lula Goce, Hyuro, Ovni and Btoy. Interventions were carried out in 10 different cities in Catalonia, with an official inauguration on April 14.
The nature of the project vindicates the need to recognize female talent in the visual arts and urban art in particular, talks about the lack of gender equality with minimal female representation in institutional circuits were carried out, highlighting the fact that there is still a resistant glass ceiling that prevents reaching a real parity in terms of the recognition of professional artists.
