Morocco born artist Mohamed L’Ghacham was recently in Mallorca Spain invited by the local street art festival Saladina Art Fest for which he painted this lovely mural based on an old photograph belonging to one of Ca’n Picafort residents.
Between classical painting and contemporary photography, Mohamed L’Ghacham’s style is characterised by a realism that clearly distinguishes him from other street artists of his generation.
Originally from Morocco, this young and talented Barcelona-based painter combines his love for classical painting and his interest in street art in a subtle mix of genres, where figurative and impressionist styles meet urban art techniques and audience.
Painted in his characteristic earth colours, the new mural depicts a group of children in a sunny summer day with their backs to a pleasant and almost desert shoreline. According to the artist, the new mural was painted on one of the oldest houses in Ca’n Picafort, Mallorca, recently named patrimony of the town. During his stay in this lovely town, Mohamed had the opportunity to meet Paquita, the owner of the house where the mural was painted. Paquita, a retired painter, gave him the opportunity and freedom to use use her family photographs to create the mural. The image Mohamed chose is one of her children 40 years ago taken in the exact same place where the mural was painted, but at a time when the town only had 200 inhabitants and it din’t have the current amount of tourists it has today. A lovely and melancholic depiction of times long gone… but not forgotten.
