French urban artist and abstract painter Nelio is currently in Mexico where he recently finished a couple of murals for the project Muros en blanco en San Miguel de Allende.
Making use of his signature imagery, composed of carefully interconnected geometrical shapes in an interesting interplay of flatness and depth, Nelio creates unique pieces that express a distinctive visual language.
As mentioned earlier, Nelio’s work is not only rooted in graffiti, but it also includes references to graphic design and ancient hieroglyphs, the surrounding architecture and environment where his walls are painted, as well as fine art movements such as Suprematism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, De Stijl, Bauhaus and Op Art. The two murals Nelio created for this occasion are a good example of this at the same time that they reflect the vibrant and colourful spirit of this lovely town.
