Spanish artists Daniel SAN Muñoz and Aryz collaborated recently in a very special project for the always great ASALTO Festival for which they painted the exterior walls of a chapel at an old psychiatric hospital in Zaragoza, Spain.
The structure has mainly been covered by Aryz with scenes that can remind us of Spain history and civil war with small additions by Daniel Muñoz SAN who seems to, among other things, make references to our relationship to tradition and art. Daniel Muñoz adds elements such as the defaced Jesus portrait, a painting by Elias Garcia Martinez, a 19th century painter that hung in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church in Borja, near the city of Zaragoza, for more than 100 years, until an elderly woman tried to touch up the weathered “ecce homo” fresco herself. Today the painting has become a turist attraction. Another striking addition by Daniel Muñoz to this composition is the sun bathing woman laying on what it seems to be a towel with the image of Giotto’s crucifix which hangs in the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy.
