Public Storyteller is a site specific installation by Italian conceptual artist Fra.Biancoshok created for this year’s Stencibility in Tartu, Estonia.
Known for his Ephemeralism series, created with the purpose of producing works of art that have to exist briefly in space but limitlessly in time through the photography and video, Fra.Biancoshock creates satirical street installations that challenge our understanding and perception of important subjects like poverty, power and the media. The idea is to disrupt the monotony of everyday life and confront passerby with highly unconventional pieces.
Public Storyteller consists of a series of small squares with QR codes placed along the tree rings. According to the artist each of these rings and the plates placed on them link to some of Estonia’s most significant historical events.
The installation shows the viewer how a stump tree (which we often remain indifferent to), is actually a testimony of the passing of time, our reality and helps us reminisce about some of those moments.
