Surrealist painter and muralist Aleksei Bordusov, also known as AEC from the now dissolved duo Interesni Kazki, was one of the artists invited to paint at this year’s Bloop Festival organised in the always lively Ibiza.
What is interesting and fun with AEC’s murals is that it’s not easy to grasp the full picture at once. Instead, the viewer is invited to read this narrative painting from left to right for so jump back and forth, and up and down scanning the many details of the wall searching for meaning.
The scene is introduced by a dark woman, half leopard half human, emerging from the jungle holding a head made of stone between her hands. A man wearing a white shirt and black pants, and whose right leg seems to spring from a tree, stands in the midle of the scene holding yet another stone head over his head. He seems to be about to throw it into a pile of stones, or perhaps broken idols. On top of the large pile of stones we see the image of a monkey holding a burning book. The book is “The Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin that according to AEC symbolises the very idea of revolution. In his words:
