Today opens NOBODY, Axel Void’s new solo exhibition at Athen B. Gallery in Oakland, California, USA.
Nobody is a show based on the life of Alvie Morris who contacted Axel Void after he painted a mural in Atlanta a couple of years ago using a random portrait image he had found on the internet as reference. He claimed he was the boy in the picture. The story was corroborated by Alvie’s sister who recognised the likeness of her brother, Alvie. After this, Alvie Morris and Axel Void kept in touch, and together thought of making a film about him. “Nobody” takes place in Oakland, California.
Alvie Morris was born on October 2, 1970 in Tulare, the middle of California’s Central Valley. His father was a non-religious, alcoholic farmer, and mother a devout Jehovah’s Witness housewife. He was interested in music at a young age, and moved to San Francisco when he was 24. Like his father, Alvie struggled with alcohol. For the past 6 years Alvie has been sober, and spends most of his time playing music, practicing photography, working at a butcher shop, and taking care of his niece, Zoe, the center of his world.
This show is comprised of the documentary film “Nobody”, a bust, and a series of paintings that portray his life as a precedent in paying homage to mundanity and quotidian life. A tribute to everyday people.
The exhibition will take place at our pop up gallery at 222 Broadway St. in Downtown Oakland. Don’t miss it!
