Polish artists and muralists Sepe and Chazme are now in Germany in order to take part of the TransUrban mural project, a joint project between 40Grad Urban Art Festival, 44309 Street Art Gallery and Cityleaks festival.
The artists have painted so far two murals, ‘Line’ in Cologne (image above) and ‘Faceless’ in Dortmund (scroll down), both dealing with the issue of gentrification and mixing the two artists quite distinctive visual language in an incredibly powerful way, creating scenarios that emerge as powerful metaphors for modern man’s alienated existence within his urban environment.
Sepe’s characters establish a clear and vivid dialogue with both the viewer and their architectural surroundings here depicted by Chazme as a complex and stone-like representation of the modern city. Certainly a strong reminder of our human condition.
In addition to these two murals, Sepe and Chazme will be painting a third one in Düsseldorf. Coming soon.
‘Faceless’, their first mural painted for the festival. I really love the way the Sepe’s characters become somehow anonymous, like in a Munch painting, and how Chazme incorporates elements of the mural’s architectural surroundings into the painting. Lovely work.
