A couple of weeks ago opened Planned Freestyle, Polish artist Bartek Świątecki aka Pener newest exhibition at Šopa Gallery in Košice, Slovakia.
Planned Freestyle consists of a series of canvases presented as site-specific installations that mix abstraction and traditional graffiti, and highlight Świątecki’s unique style based on geometric groupings and angular forms, but rather deconstructed architectural spaces. As in most abstract art, the artist makes little or no reference to real-world objects, deriving its abstractness from the self-sufficiency of meaning of the work in the work itself. Shapes and colour choices set up a context of its own, and should be both appreciated and understood this way.
Born in 1981 and currently working as an art teacher in Olsztyn, Poland, Bartek Świątecki graduated from the faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń in 2006, but he first came in contact with the street art scene in 1996. Since then, he managed to develop his own personal style characterized by geometrical clusters accompanied by interesting colour transitions and transparencies, just like the pieces presented here.
Planned Freestyle was made possible thanks to the support of Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and Tatra Banka Nadation and will run until September 20th at the gallery located on Hlavná 20 in Košice, Slovakia.
