ESCIF is now in Sweden where he just finished this huge mural for Street Art Österlen in Östra Tommarp, a small town near Skåne in Sweden.Titled “To Break A Plate For Greece”, the new mural is as conceptual as ever and makes reference to the traditional Greek folk custom involving the smashing of plates or glasses and that probably (there is no consensus when it comes to this) derives from an ancient practice of ritually “killing” plates on mourning occasions, as a means of dealing with loss.
According to Escif he prefers the version that says that the ancient Greeks smashed plates against the marble floors of their houses to keep evil spirits away from their homes so “(B)reaking a plate for Greece is a psychomagic act to ward off evil spirits from Greece. I hope that it works”, and so do we.
