Cuban-American Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, known for his known for his monumentally scaled portraits in public spaces, was recently in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he painted this huge mural in the San Telmo neighbourhood.
Finished last week and located on the corner of Tacuari and Venezuela and organised by Res Non Verba, Rodriguez-Gerada’s mural shows the candid image of the face of a child, David, one of the many children and youth living in the streets of Buenos Aires today. The mural is a poingtant reminder of the situation of this kids, their lives and hopes, their future. Gerada explains his mural as follows:
“David” is an 11 year old child studying at the Isauro Arancibia Education Center, located at 1318 Paseo Colón, in the San Telmo district of BuenosAires, where two hundred children and youth who live on the streets or are in danger of becoming homeless attend kindergarden, elementary school and primary studies. The school also serves food to the students knowing that no child can learn on an empty stomach.”
