Italian artist and photographer Filippo Minelli will be presenting next Saturday his first solo exhibition in the United States at 886 Geary Gallery‘s Inaugural exhibition in San Francisco.
Nothing to say will feature some of Minelli’s most recent work created specifically for this show during his travels in California as part of his Silence/Shapes series initiated in 2009 and originally inspired by political demonstrations. In his photographs Silence becomes representational instead for audible, representing sound appears to bedestabilizing gesture to try to give shape to its absence. How can we make visible what is not even audible, as a deprivation of each acoustic stimulus? Asks Paolo Bolpagni in a recent essay about the artist. The series, according to Bolpagni seems to run along the edge of a paradox in which Minelli’s photographs “silence becomes a physical shape transforming itself into space: physical and mental presence, to contemplate and perhaps explore.”

Nothing to Say opens this Saturday January 10th at the886 Geary Gallery located on 886 Geary Street,San Francisco from 7-11 pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing through February 7, 2014.
