Remember the Wasted Love series some time ago? well,A couple of weeks ago I heard from Greek artist Fikos and his wonderful project consisting of a series of new commissioned murals painted in the heart of the ETH University in Zurich in Switzerland.
The murals occupy different rooms inside the building, depicting things and personalities like “The personification of the Sea holding the atom of the water”, “The great Swiss mathematician Leonard Euler”, “Analysis of the light by Newton” and “Aristotle collaborating with Newton” all of them created after that distinctive and iconic style that has characterized Fiko’s work in recent years.
As usual in his work and even the topics are not taken from Christian art and of Greek history and mythology, the style is always iconographic. According to Fikos he started studying Byzantine art at a pretty early age and after a while he started collaborating professionally with his mentor for 5 years painting murals in Orthodox churches and at the same time developing his own style. The result is a wonderful mix where he introduces a Byzantine iconographic technique into a modern trend like street and decorative art, in this case in a renowned institution like ETH University in Zurich.
