This gorgeous mural is the work of Baltimore-based artist Gaia painted as part of the Savage Habbit murals project
As usual in Gaia’s work he makes use of his innate curiosity and interest for the local history of the places he visits bringing always something meaningful to his walls.
The mural is a tribute to Henry Hudson laid down the Dutch colonization of the Hudson River Valley.
Hudson’s portrait was created using Photoshop hence the layers and window tab running across the top and the image of ‘Flowers in a Vase’ by the 17th century Dutch painter Jan Davidsz. de Heem’s covering part of his face like a veil and where to make an extra connection to the place Gaia replaced some of the original flowers with local fruits and flowers from the neighboring Ogden garden.
A beautiful piece.
