Axel Void is another great painter participating of this year’s Board Dripper Festival in Queretano, Mexico.
Painted in the neighbourhood of Tepe and titled Gris, the new mural features the image of a piece of meat being processed by a butcher. Void explains the meaning of the mural as follows:
I painted this mural in the neighbourhood of “El Tepe”. “El Tepe” is located on the outskirts of the city center on the other side of the river and the train tracks. El Tepe is a lively neighborhood named after the street market that occurs every Tuesday and Sunday. It is a mixture of good food, found objects, second hand, and an increasing and decreasing flow of people depending on the day and time. While painting, I would see women going and coming from the market, carrying huge bags of the goods they were selling everyday. “El Tepe” also a transitionary area for immigrants passing by illegally, from the south, by train.
The mural is based on a photo I took in the market of a butcher taking out the bone from a pig’s leg. There is a methodical rhythm to this process, that he practices every day. The mural is a reflection on work in our daily life and the use of time and repetition.
