Argentinian artist Pastel is now in Poland where he recently painted this two murals for the Traffic Design festival 2014 in Gdynia.
Painter and architect, Pastel combines his passions in exploring the relationships between urban art, architecture and city life, but also history.
About the first wall (above)
“The extinction of native communities because of gentrification. In the north of Poland exist a small community called Kashubians that defends their roots and his dialect trying to preserve his antique culture. So it s a situation that s happening all over the world, with no exception or limits as could be the equator s line for some economical or political managements.”
And of course his second and last wall for Traffic Design titled “Communist Germination” (see images below)
“since 1945 the communism starts in Poland until his decease in 1989”.
Pastel refers here to the period of Soviet communist dominance imposed after the end of World War II over what had become the People’s Republic of Poland. These years, while featuring many improvements in the standards of living in Poland, were marred by social unrest and economic depression.
